The Miwok (Ohlone) Indians were the original inhabitants of the Contra Costa area. They hunted deer, elk, bear, and antelope. They fished salmon, drank from the mountain streams, and harvested shellfish from the Bay. In 1772, the Spanish started exploring the area, and built settlements in 1775 in San Francisco’s Presidio, and established the Mission Dolores.

Juan Salvio Pacheco joined the military and served at the Presidio de San Francisco and San Jose.

In 1834, the Mexican land grant gave a huge rancho to Salvio Pacheco which ran up to Mount Diablo, then named Monte del Diablo (Thicket of the Devil by the troops to describe the poison oak and thick underbrush. The translation was botched by the English speakers to be Mount Diablo) His son, Fernando Pacheco moved onto the land grant and raised cattle until his father and the rest of the family joined him. Today, there is still a road in San Francisco named Pacheco, a town named Pacheco, and a street in Concord named Salvio.

In 1869, Pacheco named the town Todos Santos or All Saints in English. He created a central city square and park still called Todos Santos today. The square hosts a farmer’s market, live music, and other events. Todos Santos is within walking distance of E. Olivera.

The town’s residents changed the name from Todos Santos to Concord on April 17, 1869, and it became a city on February 5th, 1905. Concord is  26 miles east of San Francisco and enjoys a Mediterranean climate.

In September of 1978, the current owners of E. Olivera wanted a larger home outside the fog of Pacifica, so they searched for a safe place to raise their four children. They fell in love with Concord and the 1960s-era home, 2597 E. Olivera. The kids loved that they could play with their friends until dark, ride their bikes everywhere, and walk to school, shops, and downtown in short order. All of the kid’s friends hung out at their centrally located house.

The previous owner was a contractor. He added on a second story, one of the few in the neighborhood. The house has a staggering eight bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and a large flat yard for playing, grilling, and gardening. Just outside the house is a walking path through the neighborhood to Holbrook Elementary Bilingual School and North Concord BART.

Fast forward to 2024. The kids are grown and moved away. It is time for the family to downsize. Their sale is your gain. The roof was replaced in 2024! Newer washer/dryer, and stainless steel refrigerator.

Cozy brick fireplace in the den for hot chocolate by the fire.

2597 E. Olivera is pure potential. It is ready and waiting for you to add your personal touch and bring it to today’s standards.

2597 East Olivera Rd, Concord

With a population greater than 120,000, and a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station offering commuting options to Oakland and San Francisco, Concord is a bustling city in Contra Costa County. Homes include those built in Craftsman, traditional, and contemporary styles.
Shopping is plentiful, with three major shopping districts. Downtown Concord, near Todos Santos Plaza, offers a vibrant mix of dining and retail in the historic area.
Concord Pavilion's open, grassy amphitheater hosts popular bands and artists. A summer series of music events brings local artists to the farmers' market downtown, now in its second decade at Todos Santos Plaza. Concord places a big emphasis on family, and the city offers plenty of parks and open space, as well as kid-friendly events like KidFest, Dalis Garden Fall Fest and Craft Fair, and Halloween contests.

Concord is not far from Mount Diablo and its extensive network of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. The popular Iron Horse Trail, which connects Concord and Dublin, is a great place to go for a walk or bike ride.
